Pictures with Great Grandma Hazel

Great Grandma Hazel (who is almost 92 years old!) was able to come for a visit and meet the babies (Thanks to Aunt Shirley and Uncle Gene for being her chauffeur). She really enjoyed all of her Great Grandchildren!

Here are some pictures...

RSV

RSV, Respiratory syncytial (sin-SISH-uhl) virus, is a respiratory virus that infects the lungs and breathing passages. For most healthy people, RSV is like the common cold, where we can recover from it rather easily. Fortunately, there is a vaccine for RSV that the triplets receive. A few days before the babies were going to leave the hospital, we had to fill out a questionnaire (the same one three times), regarding the risk factors they might have (dogs, older sibling in daycare, wood burning stove). We had to fill this out to hopefully have our insurance cover the shots. And luckily, we were approved! Otherwise the RSV shot is $1800 per child per month. Yes! I said per month! They got their first one in October and will continue to sometime this spring (can't remember the last month that they get it).

Here are the babies after they were weighed and waiting for their shots.

Aleah kept hitting Bryce in the face, so I think he decided that was enough and he held her hand. Don't worry, he got her back when he got his shot. He jumped and smacked her in the face. She started crying, not sure if it was because she got hit or sympathy for Bryce. He HATES shots!

Bryce

I thought this picture was kind of funny. We had just taken pictures of the three of them for their 3 month birthday, with a girl on each side of Bryce. When we picked up the girls, Bryce just looked around a little confused. It was as if he was saying "Where did everyone go?"

Update on Bryce

Some of you know about Bryce's heart and some do not. Well, here is the information, and the update...

Bryce was born with a heart murmur (found out heart murmurs are really quite common). It actually is two holes in his heart. One is called VSD and the other is A - - something or other (can't remember this one). Well, he had an echocardiogram (ultrasound of his heart) when he was just a day or two old. He had a follow up one done when he was 2 months old. After this appointment the ultrasound tech said that doctor would call me in a couple of weeks to discuss the results of the echocardiogram. The doctor ended up calling that afternoon, and the first words out of his mouth were "Your son is still at risk for heart failure." WHAT!! That was the first I had heard it put that way. He then wanted to see Bryce just to check him over. Bryce had some swelling around his eyes, which could be related to the heart condition(s). We were sent to have an X-ray of his chest, and it was found that he had "wet" lungs. Bryce was then placed on a diuretic to help with the swelling. We were also referred to a specialist that comes to Minot from University of Minnesota Children's hospital.

We saw the specialist the end of October. The wait for this appointment was a struggle for me, not knowing what was going on with Bryce. When we first met the specialist he made a comment to us that he was happy to see that Bryce was a little chunk with the disclaimer that he didn't mean to offend us (we are known to have babies with chubby little cheeks- look at some of the other posts). Apparently, when babies/people have heart problems, they have trouble putting on weight. The outcome of the appointment with the specialist was that things are okay for now, no need for heart surgery now, and we have a follow-up appointment in February (when the babies will be 6 months old).

3 Months (as of 11/06/08)

So, I'm a little late on getting this posted regarding the babies being 3 months old. We took a few pictures of them on their special birthday!

Have I mentioned how challenging it can be to get 3 babies to work with me for a picture? One will cry in one picture, then another one cries. However, I thought it was rather funny that Aleah's facial expression never really seems to change in these pictures. And Cayley always seems to be a little unhappy when her picture is being taken.

More Halloween Pictures

Here are some more pictures from our Halloween adventures.

Cayden by the cool pumpkin his dad carved for him.

Cayden, the proud big brother. He waited so patiently while I placed the babies around him. The babies from left to right are Cayley, Aleah and Bryce.

Cayden took this picture of his brother and sisters. He was so happy that he was able to take a picture of them. We did some rearranging in this picture, the babies left to right are Aleah, Cayley and Bryce.
